Goldsmiths Vocal Ensemble x Rosie Lowe, 2020

Artist and singer-songwriter Rosie Lowe invited the Goldsmiths Vocal Ensemble (GVE) and Laura Hemming-Lowe to collaborate with her for her performance at Earth Hackney on February 19, 2020. Hemming-Lowe contributed choreography and costume design, crafting a striking yet minimalist spectacle for two songs featured within Rosie’s set.

In weekly rehearsals, Alice Grant, musical director of GVE, joined forces with Hemming-Lowe and Lowe to guide the eclectic ensemble of singers in creating a performance that was both sonically and visually captivating. Together, they orchestrated a mesmeric and powerful blend of sound and movement.

Hemming-Lowe shared her vision for the costumes:

"Using a nude-colored net fabric, I aimed to unite the performers into one cohesive, living, breathing entity. The costumes were sewn together to physically link the performers on stage, creating movement that depended on collaboration, focus, and presence. This approach not only enhanced the visual impact but also fostered a profound sense of community within the group."
